Paddle trip on the South San gabe?

Paddle trip on the South San gabe?

Postby Brushiphile » Sat Nov 14, 2009 12:42 pm

In the past month I've made several excursions along the South San Gabriel. I've gone a couple of miles upstream of the river down rd access, and last weekend went a bit over a mile downstream from the Parmer/Ronald Reagan crossing. I think it would be an excellent float from the Parmer crossing down to I-35/Blue hole/San Gabe park. The flow right now is perfect, not too high nor too low, and the weather is perfect.

I don't have a boat, but I can strap boats on the roof of my car (I think, small Subaru wagon with roof rack & a couple of foam saddles). I figure that the club/Randy could provide use of the club boats. Or, someone may have an extra that wants to go (looking at you Doug).

I have no experience paddling in moving water, but I've paddled a bit in lakes (have floatation). I think the river would be pretty reasonable for a new paddler though.

Any thoughts?

I have too many things going on during the fall for such a fun outting, which leaves my kayak free if you would like to use it. Just let me know.

Thanks Doug. Not sure if I could pull off the logistics going alone, I'll let you know if I come up with something.

Doug, could you send me your contact information? A friend of mine has said he's interesting in doing this trip, possibly over the Thanksgiving holiday. He's got his own yak but I'd like to borrow yours if I could.

Thanks, Tim

The water is getting too cold for me to take a trip that might involve a dunking. I have an aluminum canoe you can borrow if you like.

If you take the trip please take some photos and send me a fishing report for the web sit

I recently donated my field camera to Brushy Creek, but I'll find a way to get some pictures. I'll be doing this trip on Friday or Saturday if anyone wants to join, the weather and flow looks about perfect. Not sure if I'll fish, probably just enjoy the trip and maybe hunt for fossils.
