Fishing Reports for Bull Creek at Lake Austin

November 18, 2006 - Don Johnson

I went to this spot on an Austin Fly Fishers outing. We got on the water at about 8:30 a.m. and paddled across Lake Austin to the entrance of Bull Creek. Shortly after entering Bull Creek I caught 3 small bass, ranging from about eight inches to about eleven inches; they were taken on a yellow Gurgle Pop. When fishing slowed I switched to size 10 Hare's Ear. This fly immediately began to catch small sunfish, and continued to do so for the rest of the day. I fished exclusively on the east side of the creek, casting very near the shore along the steep bluffs. I caught a few sunfish in the seven or eight inch range, but for every one of these there were many much smaller fish. All in all it was a successful day, not much size, but a lot of action.
