Fishing report Lighthouse Lakes

June 27 through 29, 2008 - Roy Smith

I went down to kayak the Lighthouse Lakes with 6 friends, June 27, 28, 29. Saturday was tough, with winds at 30mph and rain showers. Only 2 redfish were caught that day. It was tough enough to make us consider going home a day early. After some good food and a restful night, we woke to a very calm Sunday morning. We decided to fish the out going tide, which would be at about 1 pm. T his turned out very well, with several redfish and many ladyfish making it a day to remember. Of special note were 4 "firsts". Darrell Heald, Harris Young, Blake and Bart Johnson each caught their "first red on a fly". Needless to say, they're hooked. The lakes are in great shape. They are obviously getting alot of attention from kayakers, afternoons or weekdays are probably the best bet for future trips, just to avoid some of the other fishermen.
